Tuition Assistance Program at the University of Nebraska
Tuition Assistance Program
The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is a college financing commitment between the University of Nebraska and low-income youth, encouraging all young people to consider the path of higher education. The program guarantees that any resident undergraduate student who is financially eligible for a Pell Grant, and who maintains certain academic standards, will have his or her tuition covered for up to 30 credit hours per year – through grants in aid. The Tuition Assistance Program does not substitute for but rather supplements existing University of Nebraska need-based aid. In other words, the grant covers full tuition after applying Pell and other financial aid.
To qualify for the Tuition Assistance Program a student must meet the following criteria:
Full-time Nebraska undergraduate resident (at least 12 credit hours per semester)
Pell grant recipient
Satisfactory academic progress as defined by the campus for financial aid purposes
Meet general federal financial aid requirements
Maintain 2.5 minimum grade point average
Apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1 and complete the application process with the University no later than June 1 prior to the beginning of the academic year.
The program is administered and allocated by campus financial aid offices.
Nebraska Legacy Scholarship
The Nebraska Legacy Scholarship, which provides the differential between in-state and out-of-state tuition, is available to qualified freshmen who are children of University of Nebraska graduates. Students eligible for review must rank in the upper one-third of their graduating class or have a minimum ACT composite of 25 or higher (or equivalent on the SAT). The scholarship must first be awarded for the student’s freshman year, and is renewable for up to four years.
Regents Scholarship
The Regents Scholarship is awarded to outstanding incoming freshmen who are graduates of Nebraska high schools. The scholarship is valued at full tuition for up to 135 credit hours or the completion of a bachelor's degree, and is renewable as long as: a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 is maintained; 24 credit hours are completed each academic year; and a minimum of nine graded hours (not pass/no pass) are completed each semester.
