Scholarships for In-State (Vermont) Residents
UVM offers a number of merit-based scholarships. Unless otherwise stated, all first-year applicants are automatically considered on the basis of their Admissions application. Scholarship notifications are sent separately from admission decision letters, and admitted students are typically notified of scholarship eligibility within two to three weeks of receiving their letter of admission. Transfer applicants are not eligible for merit scholarship consideration. Returning UVM students should visit the section for undergraduates for scholarship information.
Green and Gold Scholars
Entering first year applicants are eligible; a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average is required for renewal, as well as enrollment in at least twelve credits per semester.
This full-tuition, four-year merit scholarship (currently valued at over $40,000) is directed to top-rated seniors attending selected Vermont High Schools.
The Scholarship is intended for the academically strongest Vermont resident in each selected school at the start of Senior year. Selection criteria will be determined by each high school, and should not be limited to standardized testing.
By August 31st of each calendar year, high school principals are asked to nominate the top-rated Vermont student who has just completed their junior year, based on the student's ninth through eleventh grade record.
Vermont Scholars
Entering first year applicants are eligible; a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average is required for renewal as well as enrollment in at least twelve credits per semester.
Designated for Vermont residents of the highest academic quality who typically rank within the top ten percent of their graduating high school class. Standardized testing is also a component in the selection process for Vermont Scholars.
Recipients are awarded a minimum merit-based scholarship of $1,500 annually. Scholars who demonstrate financial need can receive a favorable financial aid package with full need met using scholarship and work-study funding. Vermont Scholars with financial need will have their need-based student loan borrowing replaced with scholarship assistance.
Average Vermont Scholar award: $3,000 annually.
Vermont Merit Scholarship
Entering first year applicants are eligible and a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average is required for renewal, as well as enrollment in at least twelve credits per semester.
Designated for Vermont Residents who have advanced to "finalist" status within the National Merit Corporation's annual competition and who have exemplary academic records.
Recipients must demonstrate their status as a "finalist" and have declared UVM as their college of choice with the National Merit Corporation.
Recipients are awarded a four-year scholarship, up to the amount of full tuition.
Patrick Family Scholarship
Entering first year applicants are eligible and a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average is required for renewal, as well as enrollment in at least twelve credits per semester.
Designated for Vermont Residents of high academic achievement who typically rank within the top 20% of the graduating high school class. Standardized testing is also a component in the selection process.
Recipients are awarded a merit-based scholarship of $1,000 annually for four years.
Community Service Scholarship (Community Service Scholarship Application Required)
Entering first year students who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to community service are eligible.
Community Service Scholars must maintain a 2.50 cumulative grade point average for renewal as well as enrollment in at least twelve credits per semester and are required to complete 80 hours of community service during the academic year. All first year scholars are required to participate and live in the Dewey House.
Recipients are awarded a scholarship of $3,000 annually.

Designated for entering first year applicants who demonstrate financial need, academic merit and a commitment to social justice and/or to diversity.
Recipients are awarded a need-based grant of up to $1,000 annually.
Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Scholarships (ROTC application required)

University of Vermont Matching ROTC Scholarships (ROTC application also required)
First year applicants who are designated as ROTC three or four year scholarship recipients and who demonstrate superior academic merit can be considered for a Room and Board Scholarship.
The ROTC Matching Scholarship is approximately $7,500 per year for four years.
AmeriCorps Scholarship (Americorps Application Required)
Any student (graduate, undergraduate, or medical) enrolled in a degree program at the University of Vermont who has completed AmeriCorps service in Vermont and has been awarded a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is eligible to apply.
AmeriCorps Scholarships provide a 50% match to the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for one academic year of study.
Four (4) scholarships are awarded each year; recipeints are notified in August.
