Application Procedures

Steps To Apply For a Stafford Loan, Parent PLUS Loan, Graduate PLUS Loan, Perkins Loan, Purdue Loan, or Health Professions Loan:

File the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The FAFSA is required for Stafford Loans and Grad PLUS Loans and is recommended for Parent PLUS Loans. To be considered for the Perkins Loan, Purdue Loan, or Health Professions loan you must file the FAFSA by March 1 prior to Fall enrollment for priority consideration and meet lower-to-middle income thresholds.

Submit all verification documents requested by the Division of Financial Aid Office. Check for required documents via the Financial Aid Self Service system at http://mypurdue.purdue.edu.

The Division of Financial Aid (DFA) will send the student an Award Notification listing loan eligibility and application instructions on the Financial Aid Self Service system at http://mypurdue.purdue.edu.

Students should review eligiblity on the Financial Aid Self Service system and accept the amount desired in the Stafford, Perkins, Purdue, Grad PLUS, or Health Professions loan programs.

Note that Parent PLUS borrowers must submit a paper Purdue Parent PLUS Loan Request Form where they will indicate a requested loan amount and certify borrower eligibility.

The loan service provider approves the loan once the borrower has completed a Master Promissory Note (MPN). In most cases, the borrower will be contacted via email with instructions on how to sign an MPN.
