Notre Dame University Financial Aid Information
Financial Aid
Need-Blind
When reading applications and making decisions, members of the admissions committee are not aware of a student’s ability to pay tuition at the University. Decisions are reached based on the merits of an application and do not take into account whether a student can pay full tuition to attend the University.
Cost of Attendance 2009-2010:
Tuition and Fees: $38,480
Room and Board: 10,370
Books and Supplies: 950
Personal Expenses: 1000
Transportation (may vary): 500
Total Cost of Attendance: $51,300
Need-Based
The University of Notre Dame recognizes that not all students can pay the full cost of attendance each year and therefore is committed to our need-based financial aid program. The Financial Aid Office requires students and their families to complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE by February 15 of the senior year. The family contribution is based upon the information the family provides on the applications and supporting documentation. Financial need is the difference between the estimated cost of attendance and the estimated family contribution.
Financial Need = Total Cost – Estimated Family Contribution
The University is committed to offering a financial aid package designed to meet the financial need of all undergraduate applicants for financial aid.
The University creates a financial aid package combining various forms of financial aid. Students who demonstrate need are also eligible for loans; however, the University does not wish to saddle its students with unreasonable amounts of debt and limits the amount of loan assistance it includes in its decisions. Finally, students who demonstrate need are eligible for gift aid: scholarships and grants, which do not have to be repaid.
Because it is so highly competitive to be admitted to Notre Dame, virtually all students are considered meritorious. Every student who demonstrates need should receive a financial aid package that helps make Notre Dame reasonably affordable.
Application Procedures
To be considered for all forms of financial assistance administered by the Office of Financial Aid, students must complete the FAFSA and PROFILE applications online by the University’s priority filing deadline of February 15, 2008. A student should not wait for an admission decision before submitting the FAFSA and PROFILE.
The PROFILE Application is available annually on October 1 at profileonline.collegeboard.com. Notre Dame’s CSS Code number is 1841.
The FAFSA is available annually after January 1at fafsa.ed.gov. Notre Dame’s Federal School Code is 001840.
