1. Why has the award amount changed for FMS who attend Florida public community colleges?
The 2006 Florida Legislature amended section 1009.535, Florida Statutes; beginning fall 2006 , Florida Medallion Scholars who choose to attend a Florida public community college may receive an award of 100% of their tuition and allowable fees for college credit courses leading toward an associate degree.
2. Are certificate or diploma programs allowable under the 100% FMS award?
No, the 100% FMS award covers college credit courses leading toward an associate degree at a public community college.
3. Does the 100% FMS award include the specified per term allowance for college-related expenses?
No, only the Florida Academic Scholars award permits the specified per term allowance for college-related expenses established by the Florida Legislature in the General Appropriations Act.
4. Does this 100% FMS award apply to FMS renewal students?
Yes, FMS renewal students who attend a Florida public community college and who are taking college credit courses leading toward an associate degree may receive 100% of tuition and fees.
5. Are Gold Seal Vocational Students who renew as FMS eligible to receive 100% of their tuition and fees?
Yes, students who as of fall 2006 are FMS eligible students and attend a Florida public community college and are taking college courses leading toward an associate degree may receive 100% of tuition and fees.
6. Are Florida Academic Scholars who renew as FMS eligible to receive 100% of their tuition and fees?
Yes, students who are FMS eligible students and attend a Florida public community college and are taking college courses leading toward an associate degree may receive 100% of tuition and fees.
7. Which Florida public community colleges are eligible for this program?
The 28 Florida community colleges and their branch campuses or centers are eligible. Please see the Florida Department of Education Community Colleges homepage for additional information. Visit www.fldoe.org and select Community Colleges.
8. Are community college students who have earned an associate degree and are working on baccalaureate prerequisites eligible to receive the 100% FMS award?
A student must be classified at a Florida community college as an associate degree-seeking student to receive the 100% award.
9. Are consortium students from public or private Florida postsecondary institutions who attend a community college for a few courses eligible to receive the 100% FMS award?
Any Florida Medallion student who is attending a community college and classified as a degree- seeking student pursuing an associate degree will be eligible to participate in the 100% FMS award.
