How to Apply for Federal, State and University Financial Aid

Complete the FAFSA
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA should be completed in the January prior to enrollment at the University of Oregon each year. The school code for the University of Oregon is 003223.

Because many types of funding are limited, applying before the priority deadline is important. The UO priority deadline is March 1 . To ensure your application is processed and transmitted to the UO by our priority deadline, we encourage you to submit your FAFSA to the federal processor by February 1. If you have not completed your tax forms by that time, we suggest that you use estimated figures.

After Completing the FAFSA
Students who have applied for admission and have had an official FAFSA provided to the UO by the federal processor should receive a Financial Aid Award Letter packet in the mail from the University of Oregon. The Financial Aid Award Letter will indicate the types and amounts of financial aid for which the student is eligible during the academic year. Award letters are typically sent to eligible students beginning in April. They are sent to eligible students on an on-going basis throughout the year based on the date that the official FAFSA is provided to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. A response to the offer of assistance is typically required within thirty days from the date printed on the letter.
