Grants and Scholarships

North Carolina and the federal government give away millions each year to help students pay for college.


And, for most State and federal programs, you will be considered when you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).


Types of Gift Aid Available:

State Grants: Major grant programs for North Carolina students attending North Carolina colleges and universities are listed below. Detail information is provided under each listing.

NC Legislative Tuition Grant
Career Specific Scholarship/Loans
State Contractual Scholarship Fund
Student Incentive Grant
State Need-Based Scholarships: You demonstrate financial need, usually by completing the FAFSA

State Merit-Based Scholarships: You demonstrate merit based on a strong academic record, talent in a particular area such as music, art, athletics or other criteria.

Other State Scholarships: You qualify for a program that is based on criteria other than need or merit.
