According to a press release, Governor Pat Quinn has signed legislation to help Illinois residents clear their credit histories of defaulted student loans.

The bill allows the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) to purchase these loans from the United States Department of Education and repay them quickly.

“During the current credit crisis, I am pleased the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will assist those who have defaulted on student loans but have seriously tried to make amends and repayment,” Quinn said in the release.
